8. Mirroring

Exercise

You sit before a mirror and watch...

The image is hard, but there is still life in it.

Behold the reflection and try to make contact with its living source:
can you see that those are watching, looking at you?

You concentrate on details of your reflection, shapes, colors;

do you recognize the beauty of it, of the living body and its image?

You try to see the reflection in its fullness and try to see the living countenance:

can you hear the image speaking to you?

An experience:

“I walk over the pavement along a glittering building. I force myself to look (knowing that others may see that I am looking at myself!). It gives me a fright, unpleasant feeling, for this is thus the way I walk on the street and this is the way people see me . I do not know whether I am being watched, but I move along briskly, for I don’t want to be here anymore. I want to be invisible.”
